Gunner's Story

October 28, 2018 – June 7, 2019

Hello everyone, my name is Gunner and I am so happy to be alive! Let me share with you my story. I am probably between 5 and 7 years old and I am a mix but look and act very much like there is a lot of Vizsla in me. I was left abandoned at a house in Roswell, NM where the City of Roswell Animal Services picked me up.

Angels must have been looking out for me as word got to 2nd Chance Vizsla Rescue and they quickly arranged release and transport. I was so happy to be around people again and out of the shelter! I was incredibly stinky, extremely skinny, and covered in scabs left from fleas and ticks. It took two baths for my foster parents to get me clean. It soon became apparent that I was quite literally on death’s doorstep. At only 38 pounds I was very anemic, infested with tape worm and hook worm, had a giardia infection, had an enlarged prostate, and to top it all off was suffering from advanced pneumonia caused by mycoplasma kennel cough. On a special diet to slowly help me put on weight, different rounds of antibiotics, vitamins, lots of sleep, and lots of foster love I started to recover.

Fast forward and I am now over 60 pounds, healthy, and very happy to report I have found my forever family! I love my new humans and fur siblings! My new mom reports I have integrated 100% with the entire family and mentions how I love snuggling with the other dogs as well as my people. It didn’t take me long to figure out the electronic doggy door and I got the dinnertime routine down too. I share my love with everyone, my forever family as well as anyone who comes over to visit. Thank you 2CVR for giving me a second chance at life so I can share my love and happiness with everyone! Gunner
