Festus (fka Copper)'s Story

Festus (fka Copper)'s Story

March 31, 2022 – September 3, 2022

Hi my name is Festus! I came into 2CVR Foster care with the name Copper, but my foster mom thought I should get a name that reflected my happy personality and not just my color. I am a neutered 7-month-old male mix – beautiful red of a Vizsla but unknown origins and almost 40 lbs. I was found wandering the streets of Tucson, AZ when I was probably only 4 months old and was never claimed. At the end of March an amazing volunteer from AZ drove me to ABQ where I am now being fostered.

I love everyone I meet and want to play with all dogs I come across, even if they don’t want me to. I especially love playing with my foster siblings, a 5-year-old female Vizsla and a 9-year-old Doberman that looks like a Vizsla; but sometimes I get too rough, and they have to put me in my place and remind me where I fit in the pack. I love going on walks with my foster dad and the rest of the pack.

I am very happy and I have a great disposition but also a mischievous side. I like attention and will proudly cary things around that I am not supposed to have in my mouth. Much to my foster parents’ chagrin. I also like to eat cardboard, paper (I keep trying to tell them I am only helping with the recycling and shredding), bark/sticks, Kleenex, and whatever else I can get my teeth into (tomato plants). But I want to please and I learn quickly. Of course, being a puppy, I have to try everything just to make sure and explore the chew possibilities!

I am still very much a puppy, but I have already learned sit, down, (but not for any duration) and sort of shake, I am pretty much housebroken, and crate trained. I am going to be a great pet ready to please and learn! Puppies may be a lot of responsibility, but I am worth it. I love exploring the property at grandma & grandpa’s cabin. My foster mom has to go search for me (recall will need to be worked on by whomever but I am a quick study). I am usually at the back fence quietly visiting with the neighbor's dog as we try and play along the fence line. – Festus

Yeah, I have a new forever home. Andrew & Annalisa and my new mom & dad. This is what they have to say:

Festus is great. He has become part of the family already. He loves the dog park and playing outside with us. He's had the chance to meet some friends and family and his happy, playful attitude is appreciated by all. Festus' foster parents did a wonderful job teaching this young pup the basics of obedience and how to be a part of a family. We are thankful for their love and care for Festus along with the rest of the 2nd Chance Vizsla family.

Thanks again and let us know if there is anything else we can help with.

Take care,

Andrew & Annalisa
