We had Cocoa for 4 years. She was 1/2 Vizsla and 1/2 German Shorthair. She must have gotten the best qualities from both breeds as she was the smartest, most gentle dog. We taught her not to chase the bunnies in the yard though she really wanted to. She learned all by herself to seek out snakes. She didn't kill them just would be staring at them intently. When she was doing that we knew she had found another snake. Cocoa never whined like some of the Vizslas do. She must not have that part of Vizsla in her. She also wasn't so much a Velcro Vizsla as she didn't need to snuggle next to us. She was an independent spirit and loved to hang out in the shade in the back yard or watch the people walk by in the front yard. Cocoa also loved her walks along the canal path. She would start looking at us around 3 which was walk time. We let her off leash and she would go exploring in the grass but not stray too far away from us. Initially we were worried she wanted to go after other dogs. Instead, she just wanted to meet and greet them, her tail wagging like crazy. She liked all the dogs she met, even the puppies who would be jumping up on her. She was a super mellow dog. Cocoa died from lung cancer at 11 years old. She will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge along with our other dogs.
